Abortions should be legal in every state in the Unites States of America.

Black Women

Black women received 38% of reported abortions in 2019, the largest proportion of any racial group, according to the latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Court's 5-4 ruling, which overturns a 1973 decision legalizing abortion at the federal level, effectively allows states to restrict and criminalize abortions at their discretion. The decision carries a variety of healthcare, economic and even data-privacy implications that will weigh most heavily on Black women in states with the most restrictive abortion laws.

The Supreme Court’s historic decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to overturn 50 years of precedent on the constitutional right to an abortion presents a mountain of new issues, not only in the courts, but in the public health arena especially for Black women. Although some states still provide access to abortions, the Dobbs decision almost immediately wreaked havoc on the access and delivery of medical services for patients especially in the South.

I support women rights and the right to have control over our own bodies. If men are so interested in how they can prevent unwanted pregnancies, why don’t they create laws around vasectomies instead of abortions. If men want to legislate population control then they should start with their own bodies, right?
